Based on morphology and single gene phylogeny analysis of ITS, LSU, and SSU, Kondratyuk et al. (2014) introduced Elenkiniana to accommodate the type species Elenkiniana gloriae (basionym: Caloplaca gloriae), Elenkiniana ehrenbergii (basionym: Amphiloma ehrenbergii), and Elenkiniana gomerana (basionym: Caloplaca gomerana). Elenkiniana is mainly characterized by a lobate, yellow to orange thallus, with pseudocyphellae, cortical layer paraplectenchymatous, true exciple often indistinct, lecanorine apothecia, 8-spored asci, polarilocular ascospores, and bacilliform to narrowly bacilliform conidia (Kondratyuk et al. 2014).
