Clarkeinda, a small saprobic genus of Agaricaceae Chevall., was established in 1891 to compile four species, which were Clarkeinda pedilia (Berk. & Broome) Kuntze from Sri Lanka is a type species,  Clarkeinda coprinus (Fr.) Kuntze,  Clarkeinda poderes (Berk. & Broome) Kuntze, and Clarkeinda rubriceps (Cooke & Massee) Kuntze [= Macrometrula rubriceps (Cooke & Massee) Donk & Singer] (Kuntze 1891, He et al. 2019). Morphologically, basidiomata medium to large size; pileus ovoid and appendiculate when mature, top of pileus covered with dark remnant of volva or patch, furfuraceous surface; lamella white and turned dull green when mature; stipe long and thick, hollow, wider at base with broad stellate volva, slightly attenuated above, covered with white woolly tufts; annulus membranous; ellipsoidal to broadly ovoid basidiospores with truncate apex and germ pore, white to pale green; cheilocystidia clavate to broadly clavate, pileus covering epithelium composed of oblong to short clavate elements (Hosen & Ge 2011, Sysouphanthong et al. 2021). Currently, five species have been accepted by He et al. (2019). However, seven species are listed in the Species Fungorum (http://www.indexfungorum.org). Only sequences of Clarkeinda trachodes (Berk.) Singer are available in the GenBank (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/); and some studies showed that the analysis of ITS and LSU sequences certify the species is in Agaricus clade of Agaricaceae (Vellinga 2011, Sysouphanthong et al. 2021).

Type species: Clarkeinda pedilia (Berk. & Broome) Kuntze

Synonymy: Agaricus subgen. Chitonia Fr.,Chitonia (Fr.) P. Karst., Chitoniella Henn., Chitonis Clem.
