Mycosphere (in prep) Index Fungorum, Facesoffungi; MycoBank, GenBank, Fig 1 Wu et al. (2010) demonstrated that based on morphology and phylogenetic analysis of LSU nrDNA, Neoaleurodiscus (Stereaceae, Russulales) was distinct from other segregate genera of Aleurodiscus sensu lato (Basidiomycota). Therefore, the new genus Neoaleurodiscus with one new species Neoaleurodiscus fujii and one new combination Neoaleurodiscus monilifer was proposed. Acanthobasidium and Aleurodiscus (sensu stricto) are most closely related to Neoaleurodiscus, but these genera have warted or spiny basidiospores. Neoaleurodiscus fujii, the type species was obtained from specimens on trunks of Rhododendron sp., collected at the timberline of Mount Fuji, Japan. The genus members are distinguished by having a disciform basidiocarp, lack of acanthophyses, abundant moniliform gloeocystidia, and monomitic and nodose-septate hyphae. Basidia are sub-clavate, somewhat flexuous, with [...]
