Classification: Parmulariaceae, Asterinales, Dothideomycetidae, Dothideomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi

Colonies epiphyllous, black, rounded and confluent. Mycelium flattened, wide, subcuticular with pale olive to dark brown branched, septate hyphae. Sexual morph: Ascomata uniloculate, superficial, flattened, stromatic, rounded opening an irregular pore. Hamathecium of hyaline, filiform pseudoparaphyses. Asci bitunicate, 2–3-seriate, 8-spored, cylindrical, broadly rounded at the apex, short pedicellate. Ascospores irregularly and obliquely, initially hyaline becoming dark brown at maturity, 1-septum, slightly constricted, often 1-guttulate, the upper cell slightly wider than the lower cell. Asexual morph: Undetermined (Hansford 1954; Swart 1975).

Notes: Thallomyces is monotypic genus and the type species of Thallomyces oritis was recorded as pathogenic on living leaves of Orites lancifolius F. Muell. (Inacio and Cannon 2008; Wijayawardene et al. 2018, 2020). This genus is characterized by superficial, dark brown to black, flattened, circular ascomata forming on branched, septate, dark brown hyphae (Inacio and Cannon 2008; Hongsanan et al. 2020a).

Type species Thallomyces oritis (Hansf.) H.J. Swart, Trans. Br. mycol. Soc. 65(1): 85 (1975)

Other accepted species:  species Fungorum – search Thallomyces.
