Classification: Incertae sedis, Incertae sedis, Incertae sedis, Dothideomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi

Colonies epiphytic on leaves appearing as large black spots. Superficial mycelium absent. Sexual morph: Ascostromata superficial, orbicular, blackened, solitary, flattened, loculate, swollen and cracked around the center. Locules central ostiole, walled cells arranged radially when viewed in squash mounts. Peridium comprising dark brown to black cells of textura angularis. Hamathecium comprising of hyaline, aseptate, pseudoparaphyses embedded in a gelatinous matrix. Asci biseriate, bitunicate, 8-spored, cylindrical to obovoid, short and rounded pedicellate with an ocular chamber. Ascospores, 1-septum, oval to ellipsoid, initially hyaline becoming pale brown at maturity, upper cell broader than lower cell, slightly constricted and darker at the septum, smooth-walled. Asexual morph: Undetermined (Adapted from Doilom et al. (2018).

Notes: Batista and Bezerra (1964) introduced Syrropeltis and it is a monotypic genus. Doilom et al. (2018) re-examined the holotype of S. xylopia and placed in Parmulariaceae based on its large and blackened, multi-loculate ascostromata, hamathecium with pseudopara-physes cylindrical-clavate asci and 1-septum, pale brown ascospores. Wijayawardene et al. (2020) placed this genus in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis and Hongsanan et al. (2020a) accepted this genus in Parmulariaceae. Syrropeltis is characterized in having a relatively large and black ascomata, ovoid, pale brown to brown, 1-septum, ascospores with slightly at the septum (Doilom et al. 2018). We follow Hongsanan et al. (2020a) and accept this genus in Parmulariaceae based on morphology until it is confirmed with molecular data.

Type species Syrropeltis xylopia Bat., J.L. Bezerra & Matta, in Batista & Bezerra, Portug. acta biol., Sér. B 7(4):377 (1964).

Other accepted species:  species Fungorum – search Syrropeltis.
