Classification: Parmulariaceae, Asterinales, Dothideomycetidae, Dothideomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi

Note: Rhipidocarpon is a monotypic genus and the holotype was reported from Indonesia. It was reported as parasitic on living leaves of Nypa fruticans Wurmb. (Inacio and Cannon 2008; Wijayawardene et al. 2018, 2020). We observed the type specimen of R. javanicum from University of Illinois Herbarium and it was not in good condition. Dai et al. (2020) studied the herbarium specimen from S herbaria (see morphology in Dai et al. 2020). Rhipidocarpon is characterized by superficial, solitary to gregarious, superficial, blackened, circular to irregular, carbonaceous, flattened ascomata with irregularly arranged ridges radiating from the centre to the outer rim, cylindrical to clavate or subglobose asci and 1-septum brown ascospores (Inacio and Cannon 2008).

Type species Rhipidocarpon javanicum (Pat.) Theiss. & Syd., Annls mycol. 13(3/4): 197

Schneepia javanica Pat., Ann. Jard. Bot. Buitenzorg, suppl. 1: 122 (1897).

Other accepted species:  species Fungorum – search Rhipidocarpon.
