Classification: Roccellaceae, Arthoniales, Arthoniomycetidae, Arthoniomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.

Pseudoschismatomma was proposed as a monotypic genus within Roccellaceae, Arthoniales as Arthoniomycetes by Ertz et al. (2014), and P. rufescens as the type species. This species was initially described as Opegrapha rufescens by Persoon (1794). Pseudoschismatomma rufescens morphologically resembles Schismatomma graphidioides, but P. rufescens has a distinct brown true exciple and the ascospores are shorter (16–27×3–5 μm) than S. graphidioides (ascospores 24–36 (-40) × (2.5-) 3–3.5 μm) (Ertz et al. 2014Cannon et al. 2021). Pseudoschismatomma is characterized by small, immersed, often slightly raised apothecia with a fully exposed disc, a thin true exciple that is often surrounded by a thin whitish pseudothalline margin, and curved, fusiform, and septate ascospores (Ertz et al. 2014Cannon et al. 2021). The genus has never been reported in chemical reactions (Cannon et al. 2021). No other species have been introduced to this genus, which remains monotypic.

Type species: Pseudoschismatomma rufescens (Pers.) Ertz & Tehler

Other accepted species: This genus is monotypic.
