Classification: Pleosporaceae, Pleosporales, Pleosporomycetidae, Dothideomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.

Based on phylogenies of ITS, LSU and RPB2 analyses and morphological studies, Amaradasa et al. (2014) established Porocercospora to accommodate the type species Porocercospora seminalis (=Cercospora seminalis). Porocercospora seminalis can cause an important buffalograss false-smut pathogen, which affects seed production (Amaradasa et al. 2014). Porocercospora is characterized by densely aggregated conidiophores with subcylindrical, branched above, septate, arising from brown stroma, solitary conidia, medium brown, obclavate to cylindro-obclavate, transversely multi-distoseptate, apex subobtuse, base obconically truncate (Amaradasa et al. 2014). No other species have been introduced to this genus, which remains monotypic.

Type species: Porocercospora seminalis (Ellis & Everh.) Amaradasa, Amundsen, H. Madrid & Crous

Other accepted species: This genus is monotypic.
