Classification: Parmulariaceae, Asterinales, Dothideomycetidae, Dothideomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi

Colonies epiphyllous on leaves. Sexual morph: Ascomata superficial, orbicular to irregular, blackened, flattened, radially loculate, covering radial, single-layered, light brown, radially loculated, parallel, straight hyphae, hypostroma absent. Peridium 2-layered, the outer layer comprising of black longitudinal arranged cells, the inner layer of dark brown cell of textura intricata to epidermoidea. Hamathecium with longitudinal arranged, brown cells of paraphysoid tissue or filiform pseudoparaphyses. Asci bitunicate, biseriate, globose to clavate, 8-spored, hyaline. Ascospores clavate to rounded, 1-septum, initially yellow becoming brown when mature, slightly constricted at the septum, thick-walledAsexual morph: Undetermined.

Note: Theissen and Sydow (1914) introduced Parmulina with the type species of P. exsculpta. Inácio and Cannon (2008) re-examined and designated a neotype for Parmulina. Parmulina is characterized by superficial, circular to irregular, rather flat, radially loculated, black ascomata covering with radial, single-layered, light brown, parallel, straight hyphae (Inácio and Cannon 2008). The ascomata of two species are relatively different as we did not observe any hyphae at the margin of ascomata and the shape ascospores are more ellipsoidal. We accepted Parmulina in Parmulariaceae based on morphology until it is confirmed with molecular data.

Type species: Parmulina exsculpta (Berk.) Theiss. & Syd. Annls mycol. 12(1): 45 (1914)

Other accepted species:  species Fungorum – search Parmulina.
