Classification: ParmulariaceaeAsterinalesDothideomycetidaeDothideomycetesPezizomycotinaAscomycota, Fungi

Epiphytic on living leaves, discrete, appear as black dots. Hyphae superficial, thin, hyaline, hard to detect. Sexual morph: Ascomata superficial, irregularly suborbicular, solitary, subdense, multilocular, gregarious, black, flattened-convex, circular, dimidiate, with radiating ridges making a central loculi, penetrating cuticles with hyphae. Hamathecium with hyaline, branched, pseudoparaphyses. Asci numerous, 8-spored, bitunicate, subglobose to clavate or obovoid or ellipsoid to obovoid, sessile or short pedicellate, rounded at apex. Ascospores conglobate, brown, 2-seriate, pyriform, unequally 1-septum, constricted at the septum, smooth-walled. Asexual morph: Undetermined (Sivanesan 1970).

Notes: Parmulariopsella is similar to Parmularia, but differs as the ascomata are covered by dark hyphae (Inácio and Cannon 2008) This genus is characterized by solitary ascomata growing in the centre of the black mycelium, subglobose to clavate or obovoid asci and ellipsoid, brown, 1-septum ascospores (Inácio and Cannon 2008). Parmulariopsella was reported as pathogenic on living leaves (Inácio and Cannon 2008Wijayawardene et al. 20182022). Sivanesan (1970) differentiated Parmulariopsella from Parmularia from the manner of attachment of the ascomata, branched pseudoparapahyses and unequally septate ascospores.

Type species: Parmulariopsella burseracearum Sivan., Trans. Br. mycol. Soc. 55(3): 510 (1970)

Other accepted species:  species Fungorum – search Parmulariopsella.
