The monotypic fossil genus Palaeocolletotrichum was described by Mitra & Banerjee (2000from the Geabdat Sandstone Formation (Middle Miocene), exposed along the National Highway 31 Road Section, Darjeeling Foothills, Eastern Himalaya, India. This genus is characterized by indistinct subdermal acervuli and long, narrow, stiff, and pointed setae emerging from the acervular surface.

Type species: Palaeocolletotrichum graminioides S. Mitra & M. Banerjee 2000
