Kryptastrinaceae was introduced by Doweld (2014). Kryptastrina is a type genus with Kryptastrina inclusa as the type species. This family is characterized by basidiocarps, hymenia, cystidia, without hyphidia, very narrow hyphae, solitary basidia, and transversely 3-septate, each of which develops one short, cornuted sterigma with asymmetrically attached spores, pyramidally tetrahedral basidiospores, and thin walls.
