Index Fungorum, Facesoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank, Fig. 1
Classification: Asterinaceae, Asterinales, Dothideomycetidae, Dothideomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi
Epiphytic on surface of the leaves. Surface mycelium pale brown to brown and aseptate. Sexual morph: Undetermined. Asexual morph: Pycnothyrium superficial, circular, comprising of radially arranged dark brown cells with central ostiole and poorly developed basal layer. Conidiogenous cells holoblastic, cylindrical, hyaline. Conidia ovoid or broadly clavate, widest and rounded near the apex and tapering towards lower end, 1-septum near the tapering base, upper cell pale brown to brown, lower cell hyaline (Hongsanan et al. 2016c).
Notes: Discopycnothyrium was established by Hongsanan et al. (2016c) and it is similar to Asterostomula and Prillieuxina in having circular pycnothyria with radially arranged cells. However, Asterostomula and Prillieuxina have pycnothyria with star-like or irregular openings and brown conidia, while Discopycnothyrium has a pycnothyrium with a central ostiole and conidia with 1 septum and brown upper cells and hyaline lower cells (Fig. 1) (Hongsanan et al. 2016c).
Type species: Discopycnothyrium palmae Hongsanan & K.D. Hyde, Mycotaxon 131(4): 863 (2017) [2016].
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Discopycnothyrium.
