Basidiobolomycetidae was identified by Kirk (2014) to accommodate the human pathogenic subcutaneous zygomycosis-causing taxa. Basidiobolomycetidae are typified by Basidiobolus. Basidiobolomycetidae species are characterized by dimorphic sporophores: primary sporophores (a subsporangial vesicle, primary spores globose, solitary, forcibly discharged from the sporophore), secondary sporophores (not basally swollen, and clavate secondary spores with a knob-like adhesive tip and passively released), and spherical, smooth, thick-walled zygospores with two closely appressed beak-like appendages formed in the mycelium (Blackwell & Malloch 1989, Kirk 2014).
Type genus: Basidiobolus Eidam
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Basidiobolomycetidae
