Barbatosporales was introduced by Doweld (2014) to accommodate the monotypic family Barbatosporaceae. This order is characterized by cylindrical trichospores, lack of collar, multiple fine appendages at their base, and cylindrical sleeve at their terminal end, which on dehiscence may reveal appendage-like filaments (White et al. 2006). Only one species, Barbatospora ambicaudata, belongs to the monotype genus Barbatospora in Barbatosporales (Wijayawardene et al. 2022).

Type family: Barbatosporaceae Doweld

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Barbatosporales
