Classification: Incertae sedis, Helotiales, Leotiomycetidae, Leotiomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.

Based on the phylogenies of LSU and SSU analyses and morphological studies, the genus Acidea was established in Leotiomycetes by Hujslova et al. (2014) to accommodate the type species A. extrema. Acidea is characterized by hyphomycetes morph, compact colonies with ruffled margins, wrinkled, centrally heaped to cerebriiform, funiculose or yeast-like, white to beige, mycelium sterile, sparsely branched, fully filled with a single line of granules, often fragmenting (Hujslova et al. 2014). No other species have been introduced to this genus, which remains monotypic.

Type species: Acidea extrema Hujslová & M. Kolařík

Other accepted species: This genus is monotypic.
