Uzbekistanica was introduced by Wanasinghe et al. (2018) based on morphology and phylogeny (ITS, LSU, SSU, tef and rpb2). Uzbekistanica belongs to Melanommataceae (Pleosporales, Dothideomycetes)which has a wide distribution in temperate and subtropical regions in various woody plants found in terrestrial, marine, or freshwater habitats. The melanommataceous genera Marjia, Gemmamyces, Melanocucurbitaria, Muriformistrickeria, Pseudostrickeria, and Praetumpfia are morphologically similar to Uzbekistanica in having muriform ascospores. Uzbekistanica species have been isolated from Uzbekistan, Russia and Iran as pathogens and saprobes on Rosa hissarica, Juglans regia, and Prunus armeniaca(Wanasinghe et al. 2018, Hongsanan et al. 2020, Bagherabadi & Zafari 2021). Both sexual and asexual morphs are recorded where the sexual morph is characterized by broadly oblong ascomata, septate pseudoparaphyses, cylindrical to cylindric-clavate asci, and muriform, ellipsoidal, yellowish brown to brown ascospores. The asexual morph is coelomycetous, with globose conidiomata, holoblastic, cylindrical to subcylindrical, hyaline conidiogenous cells, and 1-septate, sepia or brown conidia (Wanasinghe et al. 2018, Hongsanan et al. 2020).
