Melanommataceae G. Winter (Pleosporales Luttr. ex M.E. Barr) was introduced by Winter (1885) which has 20 genera based on taxonomy and morphological study (Tian et al. 2015). Wanasinghe et al. (2018) reported Monoseptella as a new member of Melanommataceae based on LSU, SSU, ITS and tef sequenced data. Monoseptella is saprobic and can be found growing on dead twigs and stems of rose species. Currently, only one taxon name is listed under Monoseptella in Index Fungorum (2022). The genus is characterized by having a sexual morph with superficial ascomata, that are spherical to subglobose. The peridium consists of 5 to 7 layers of textura globosa/angularis cells that are brown, and reddish brown, with inside cells lighter and darker on the outside. Asci are cylindrical and 8-spored. Ascospores are unicellular, subcylindrical to cylindrical, and slightly curved, the walls are smooth, thin, and hyaline, with the presence or absence of mucilaginous sheath (Wanasinghe et al. 2018). There is no report of asexual morph of Monoseptella (Wanasinghe et al. 2018).
