Classification: Parmulariaceae, Asterinales, Dothideomycetidae, Dothideomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi
Colonies appearing as numerous, scattered, black, stromata forming ellipsoid tar spot-like colonies on the surfaces of leaves. External mycelium absent. Sexual morph: Ascomata superficial, multiloculate, dark brown to black, initially circular, becoming oblong or ellipsoidal, opening by radiating fissures, composed of brown cells textura prismatica. Asci bitunicate, 8-spored, cylindrical-clavate to clavate, 1–2-seriate, non-amyloid, slightly forked at the base. Ascospores hyaline, fusiform, aseptate, biguttulate, smooth-walled. Asexual morph: Undetermined (Guatimosim et al. 2014b).
Notes: Rhagadolobiopsis was introduced by Guatimosim et al. (2014b) by typifying R. thelypteridis and it differs from other genera of Parmulariaceae in having hyaline and aseptate ascospores (Guatimosim et al. 2014b). Parmularia has a peg-like connection between the ascomata and the host however, Rhagadolobiopsis lacks an internal stroma (Guatimosim et al. 2014b). Rhagadolobium differs from Rhagadolobiopsis by light brown to brown and one-septate ascospores and a hymenial gel that becomes blue in iodine (Inacio and Cannon 2008).
Type species Rhagadolobiopsis thelypteridis Guatim. & R.W. Barreto, Mycologia 106(2): 277 (2014)
Other accepted species: species Fungorum – search Rhagadolobiopsis.
