Epiphytic on the surface leaves. Superficial hyphyae brown, branched, septate, appressoriate. Sexual morph: Thyriothecia scattered, orbicular, stellately dehiscing at the cen- tre, margin fimbriate, fringed hyphae straight to flexuous. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, ovate to oblong, stipitate, slightly pedicellate. Ascospores brown, 1-septum, larger cell ovate to oblong, smaller cell, ovate to globose, often mammiform, smooth-walled. Asexual morph: Undetermined (Hosagoudar and Harish 2010).
Notes: Hosagoudar and Harish (2010) introduced Vishnumyces with V. otonephelii as the type species. The genus is characterized by orbicular thyriothecia, which dehisce stellately at the centre, and uniseptate apiospores with a small basal cell (Hosagoudar and Harish 2010). Vishnumyces is morphologically similar to Asterina in having orbicular thyriothecia opening by star-like fissures and appressoriate superficial mycelium (Fig. 1). However, it differs from Asterina by ovate to oblong apiosporous ascospores. Herein, we follow Hongsanan et al. (2014a) and accept this genus in Asterinales incertae sedis until it is confirmed with molecular data.
