Oblongohyalosporaceae was introduced by Tennakoon et al. (2021) to accommodate a monotypic genus, Oblongohyalospora. Phylogenetically, Oblongohyalospora forms a distinct lineage related to species of Asterinaceae, Asterotexaceae, Lembosiaceae and Asterinales incertae sedis. Members of Oblongohyalosporaceae have superficial, scattered, rounded to oval, flattened, brown to black pycnothyria, upper wall comprising an irregular arrangement of dark cells and unicellular, oblong, hyaline conidia with 2–3 large guttules (Tennakoon et al. 2021).
Type genus: Oblongohyalospora Tennakoon, C.H. Kuo & K.D. Hyde, Fungal Diversity: [56] (2021)
