Classification: incertae sedis, AsterinalesDothideomycetidaeDothideomycetesPezizomycotinaAscomycota, Fungi

Epiphytic on the surface of the leaves. Surface mycelium brown, septate, branched, with appressoria. Appressoria solitary but mostly in couplets like Gangamyces, unicellular, lumen between both the appressoria is continuous or separated by cell wall of the mycelial cells. Sexual morph: Thyriothecia oval to ellipsoidal or elongated sometimes fimbriate at the margins, opening by an irregular linear fissure. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, globose. Ascospores brown, conglobate, oblong, 1-septum, constricted at the septum. Asexual morph: Undetermined (Hosagoudar et al. 2014).

Notes: Andamanomyces was introduced by Hosagoudar et al. (2014) and formally placed in Lembosiaceae. It is morphologically similar to Gangamyces in having superficial hyphae with appressoria, globose asci and conglobate 1-septum brown ascospores. However, this genus differs from Gangamyces by elliptical thyriothecia with vertical sutures (Hosagoudar 2012Hosagoudar et al. 2014). Hongasanan et al. (2020a) and Wijayawardene et al. (2022) placed this genus in Asterinales incertae sedis. In this study, we followed Hosagoudar et al. (2014) and placed Andamanomyces in Lembosiaceae based on oval, ellipsolidal and elongated thyriothecia, appressorial superficial hyphae, globose to subglobose asci and brown, conglobate, 1-septum ascospores.

Type species: Andamanomyces fragariae Hosag. Threatened Taxa 6(2): 5449 (2014).

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Andamanomyces.
