Uncol was introduced by Buritica and Rodriguez (2000) as a monotypic genus in Uncolaceae (Pucciniales, Pucciniomycetes, Basidiomycota) (Hyde et al 2024c). The only known species in the genus is Uncol diazii, which is characterized by powdery colonies in chlorotic-necrotic, angular-rectangular areas, abundant paraphyses; globose, ellipsoid urediniospores; and holoblastic, catenulate, obovoid, or campanulate, hyaline teliospores. (Buritica and Rodriguez 2000; Cummins and Hiratsuka 2003). Uncol diazii is a biotrophic fungus that is confined to pteridophytes, including the host families Cyatheaceae, Dennstaedtiaceae, Polypodiaceae and Thelypteridaceae in Brazil and Colombia (Buritica and Rodriguez 2000He et al. 2019Salazar-Yepes 2021). Sequence data is unavailable for this genus.
