The monotypic genus Poculopsis was introduced by Kirschstein (1935), containing the single species P. ogrensis (Holm and Holm 1981aLumbsch and Huhndorf 2007). Based on the similarity with the Ciborioideae of the new collection, Dennis (1963ab) synonymized P. ogrensis as Allophylaria ogrensis without re-examining the type material, suggesting the affinity of this species associated with Sclerotiniaceae (as Ciborioideae). However, Holm and Holm (1981a) clarified that the defining characteristic of taxonomic status of this genus is the spore characteristics, which eventually turn dark brown and develop a septum. This was overlooked by the study of Dennis (1963ab). Currently, Poculopsis is accepted in Helotiaceae (Helotiales, Leotiomycetes, Ascomycota), with epiphyllous, distinctly, yellow to darkening with age subgelatinous when wet, stipitate apothecia; unitunicate, J+, cylindrico-clavate asci with a minute ring, and ellipsoid, 01-septate, hyaline to dark brown ascospores with guttules (Dennis 1963abHolm and Holm 1981aLumbsch and Huhndorf 2007Hyde et al. 2024c). Poculopsis ogrensis was reported as a common saprobic fungus restricted to Lycopodium spp. (Lycopodiaceae), including L. annotinum and L. clavatum, with 17 samples from Sweden and one collection from Norway (Dennis 1963abHolm and Holm 1981a).

Type species: Poculopsis ogrensis Kirschst.

Allophylaria ogrensis (Kirschst.) Dennis.

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Poculopsis.
