Phacidina was established by Höhnel (1917) as a monotypic genus. The single species, P. gracilis (Bas. Phacidium gracile), is characterized by scattered ascocarps with pseudoparenchymatous shield; unitunicate, J+, clavate asci with aseptate, rod-like, hyaline spores (Voss 1882; Holm and Holm 1981a; Höhnel 1917). Phacidina has an uncertain taxonomic placement among Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis in Ascomycota (Wijayawardene et al. 2022; Hyde et al. 2024c), but presents an interesting and unique ecology that presume ably co-extensive with Lycopodium species (Voss 1882; Holm and Holm 1981a; Höhnel 1917). Phacidina gracilis is an encountered fungus that has only been collected from ferns belonging to Lycopodium (Lycopodiaceae), including L. alpinum, L. clavatum, L. complanatum, L. obscurum and L. tristachyum (Lind 1934; Cooke 1977; Holm and Holm 1981a).
