Paratrimmatostroma was introduced as a monotypic genus in Parabambusicolaceae (Pleosporales, Dothideomycetes, Ascomycota) by Phookamsak et al. (2019) based on multi-gene phylogenetic analysis. The single species, P. kunmingensis, was reported as saprobic on dead fronds of an unidentified fern in China (Phookamsak et al. 2019). The genus resembles Trimmatostroma in having effuse to confluent sporodochia, semi-macronematous, mononematous conidiophores, integrated, terminal conidiogenous cells, and branched, pigmented conidia that are variable in shape. However, they are phylogenetically distinct (Crous et al. 2007aWijayawardene et al. 2018Phookamsak et al. 2019Hongsanan et al. 2020aPem et al. 2024). Based on a single record, the conclusion that the fern host preference of this genus is too arbitrary. Therefore, further studies with larger collections are needed for verification of ecology.
