Crous et al. (2014) introduced Pseudoacremonium to accommodate Pseudoacremonium sacchari as a monotypic species based on morphological and molecular studies (ITS and LSU). Only asexual morph has been reported from this genus and are characterized by erect conidiophores with subcylindrical, rarely branched, 1–3-septate, smooth-walled, and brown with age, verruculose and warty; elongate-ampulliform or navicular conidiogenous cells with terminal, integrated, tapering towards apex, with prominent periclinal thickening and inconspicuous collarette, hyaline to brown, and verruculose to warty; unbranched chain conidia, ellipsoid, aseptate, thin-walled, hyaline to brown, verruculose, guttulate, with scarring at each end, appearing flaky when mounted in lactic acid or water (Crous et al. 2014).
Type species: Pseudoacremonium sacchari Crous
Other accepted species: This genus is monotypic.
