Based on phylogenetic analyses of ITS, LSU, and RBP2 and morphological studies, Li et al. (2014) proposed Datroniella as a new genus to accommodate four new species (Datroniella melanocarpa, Datroniella subtropica, Datroniella tibetica, and Datroniella tropica) and one species transferred from Datronia (Datroniella scutellata) as the type species. Subsequently, Datroniella minuta was introduced into this genus by de Lira et al. (2016). Later, the five species from Li et al. (2014) were transferred to Cerioporus based on a comparison of their morphological features by Zmitrovich (2018). Therefore, currently, only D. minuta belongs to this genus, which can be found in the dead wood found in Brazil (de Lira et al. 2016). Datroniella minuta is characterized by its small basidiomata, reddish to dark brown, margin lighter than the abdominal surface and becoming slightly involute when dry, basidia with four sterigmata and a basal clamp connection, and basidiospores cylindrical, apiculate, hyaline, with few guttules, IKI-, and CB- (de Lira et al. 2016). Therefore, the type species of Datroniella was transferred to another genus, and new species need to be designed soon.

Type species: Datroniella scutellata (Schwein.) B.K. Cui, Hai J. Li & Y.C. Dai (current name: Cerioporus scutellatus (Schwein.) Zmitr.)

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Datroniella
