Embryonispora was established by Zhao et al. (2013) with Embryonispora bambusicola as the type species and the only known species in this genus. Embryonispora bambusicola was found on dead culms of bamboo and dead branches of an unidentified tree in China, and the asexual morph of Embryonispora was characterized by sporodochial, superficial conidiomata; immersed mycelium; undifferentiated conidiophores reduced to conidiogenous cells; conidiogenous cells monoblastic, integrated, terminal, determinate; conidial secession schizolytic, with forming solitary, acrogenous, muriform, reniform or flattened, dorsiventrally curved, holoblastic, olivaceous, pale brown to brown conidia, and conidia variable in shape, with longitudinal, transverse and oblique septa (Zhao et al. 2013). No sequences are available in this genus; in the future, a fresh collection and DNA sequences are needed to confirm the placement.
Type species: Embryonispora bambusicola G.Z. Zhao
Other accepted species: This genus is monotypic.
