Classification: Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, Fungi.
Zevadia was introduced by David et al. (1995b) to accommodate Z. peroccidentalis, discovered on Usnea flammea. The genus is characterized by stromatic conidiomata that are initially covered by a thin layer, which later ruptures to expose the conidia and conidiophores. The fruiting bodies are black, carbonaceous, and often coalesce into larger structures. The conidiophores are septate, pigmented, and branched, bearing cupulate conidiogenous cells. The conidia are dark brown, warty, and typically non-septate, forming in short basipetal chains (David et al. 1995b).
In the absence of molecular data, the phylogenetic position of Zevadia remains unresolved, and it is tentatively placed within Ascomycota as genera incertae sedis (Hyde et al. 2024).
Type species: Zevadia peroccidentalis J.C. David & D. Hawksw. (David et al. 1995b).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Zevadia
