Classification: Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, Fungi.

Vouauxiella was introduced by Petrak et al. (1927) to include two species, V. verrucosa and V. lichenicola, both originally classified under Torula and found on Lecanora subfusca. Sutton (1980) later added V. pithospora, transferred from Alysia pithospora Cavalc. & A.A. Silva, which occurs on foliicolous lichens. Alstrup (1993b) described V. caloplacae, identified on Caloplaca scopularis. The genus comprises four recognized species, with no molecular datas are available in GenBank.

The genus is characterized by small, dispersed, roundish to oval ascomata primarily composed of the darkly pigmented tissue of the host. These ascomata are initially embedded in the host tissue and later rupture, becoming widely open at maturity, often resembling miniature cups. Conidiophores are robust, simple, occasionally forked, and located at the base and lower side walls of the ascomata. They are darkly pigmented, short-segmented, and produce chains of unicellular, darkly colored conidia. The conidia are elongated, ellipsoidal, or occasionally nearly spherical (Petrak et al. 1927).

Type species: Vouauxiella verrucosa (Vouaux) Petr. & Syd.

= Torula verrucosa Vouaux.

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Vouauxiella.
