Index Fungorum, Facesoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank, Fig 1.
Classification: Bionectriaceae, Hypocreales, Hypocreomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.
Associated with Araucaria leaf litter. Sexual morph: Undetermined. Asexual morph: Conidiomata sporodochial, scattered to gregarious, white. Stipe extensions erect, unbranched, aseptate, thick-walled, terminating in a thin-walled vesicle. Conidiophores reduced to conidiogenous cells. Phialides discrete, determinate, formed intercalary or lateral, ampulliform, with collarettes. Conidia aseptate, cylindrical with rounded ends, guttulate, hyaline, smooth-walled (Crous et al. 1994).
Known distribution: Australia (Crous et al. 1994)
Notes: Crous et al. (1994) introduced the monotypic genus Vesicladiella to accommodate vesiculate hyphomycete Pulvinotrichum capitatum. The genus was not allocated to a family (Crous et al. 1994). Vesicladiella is characterized by sporodochial conidiomata, stipe extensions terminating in a vesicle, ampulliform phialides and cylindrical, aseptate, hyaline conidia (Crous et al. 1994). Vesicladiella has been maintained in Bionectriaceae by Maharachchikumbura et al. (2015, 2016). No sequence data are available. By considering the morphology, we propose to retain Vesicladiella in Nectriaceae until the phylogenetic position is confirmed by fresh collections and molecular data.
Type species: Vesicladiella capitata (B. Sutton) Crous & M.J. Wingf. [as ‘capitatum‘], Mycotaxon 50 456 (1994).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Vesicladiella.
