Classification: Incertae sedis, Incertae sedis, Incertae sedis, Incertae sedis, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.
Notes: Troposporium was introduced and described by Harkness (1884), with T. album as the type species based on morphological data. Troposporium album was found on dead stems of Corylus rostrata in California (Index Fungorum 2024). Troposporium is characterized by hyaline, aseptate, branched or unbranched conidiophores, and acrogenous, hyaline, aseptate, and helicoid conidia that are tightly coiled by 3–7 times in a counter-clockwise direction to form a broadly ellipsoidal or doliiform body (Harkness 1884). T. album is similar to Helicoon sessile, in having hyaline, acrogenous and helicoid conidia. However, the latter has septate and shorter conidiophores, and septate, acropleurogenous conidia (Seifert et al. 2011).
Type species: Troposporium album Harkn., Bulletin of the California Academy of Sciences 1: 39 (1884).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Troposporium.
