Classification: Geoglossaceae, Geoglossales, Incertae sedis, Geoglossomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.

The genus Trichoglossum is typified by T. hirsutum (Pers.) Boud. Trichoglossum species are characterized by black or dark brown, club-shaped apothecia, inoperculate, amyloid asci, hymenial setae (presence in both ascogenous and sterile portions), apically curved or coiled, septate paraphyses and fusoid, septate ascospores. They are saprobes in soil (Mains 1954; Jaklitsch et al. 2016). There are 20 species listed under this genus (Species Fungorum 2023). We introduce a new Trichoglossum species in this study.

Type species: Trichoglossum beninense De Kesel, Hustad, A.N. Mill., Fedosova & V. Kučera.

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Trichoglossum.
