Epiphytic on leaves. Superficial mycelium blackened, composed of thin, branched to reticulate, membranous, hyaline, septate hyphae. Sexual morph: Ascostromata perithecial, solitary to gregarious, globose-flattened, yellowish, soft-fleshed, setose, with periphysate ostioles. Peridium composed of several layers of hyaline to light brown flattened cells of textura globulosa. Hamathecium lacking paraphyses. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, clavate, apedicellate, with a conspicuous refractive ring, thickened at the apex, stained blue in KOH-KIK, with or without apical ring. Ascospores overlapping multi-seriate, hyaline to subhyaline, muriform or 7–9 transversely and 1 longitudinal septate, cylindrical to oblong, somewhat clavate, blunt to rounded at the ends with or without a gelatinous sheath. Asexual morph: Undetermined (Höhnel 1909; Batista and Ciferri 1962; Pohlad and Reynold 1974; Tian et al. 2021).
Notes: Höhnel (1909) invalidly published Treubiomyces and later, Batista and Ciferri (1962) established this genus with the type species T. pulcherrimus (Reynold 1983). The genus was initially placed in Nectriaceae and is morphologically resembles to Malmeomyces however, that genus differs in having cupuliform, yellowish ascomata (Reynold 1983). This genus is characterized by globose-flattened, dark brown to black, setose, periphysate ostioles, clavate asci with cylindrical to oblong, muriform ascospores (Batista and Ciferri 1962; Pohlad and Reynold 1974). Höhnel (1909) mentioned the lobed setae in the subiculum as a distinguishing character of this genus. Later, Pohlad (1980) identified two type of setae which are bulbous bases and thick dark brown to black walls. Treubiomyces resembles Chaetothyrium in having globose, setose ascomata with superficial mycelia, periphysate ostioles, and bitunicate asci, but differs in its muriform ascospores. Species of this genus have been recorded from tropical or upper regions of sub-tropical areas (Reynold 1983). Tian et al. (2021) accepted Treubiomyces in Chaetothyriaceae until it is confirmed with molecular data.
