The order was set up by Fries (1821), based on Tremellaceae Fr. Most species of the order have gelatinous basidiocarps with transverse or oblique basidial septa. However, some teleomorphic species apparently lack basidiocarps and some species grow as yeasts in their haploid stages (Weiss et al. 2014Liu et al. 2015b).
