Classification: Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.

Trematosphaeriopsis was established by Elenkin (1901) to accommodate Trematosphaeriopsis parmeliana Jacz. & Elenkin, which grows on the thallus of Parmelia. Vouaux (1912b) considered the presence of a stroma of the nature described by Elenkin to naturally place this species in Homostegia, therefore, he combined this species as H. parmeliana (Jacz. & Elenkin) Vouaux. However, Hafellner (2001) reinvestigated this monotypic genus, accepted it as a separate genus, and provided a detailed description and line drawing of the type species. Diederich et al. (2018a) accepted this viewpoint and included this genus and its type species in the lichenicolous list. Zhurbenko (2021b) published a new report for the Asian part of Russia from Mongolian border region and provided a color illustration to this species.

Trematosphaeriopsis is characterized by hemisphaerical to somewhat flattened gall-like ascomata that are entirely immersed and protruding only at the ostiole, cylindrical asci that are fissitunicate, 8-spored, and hyaline ascospores narrowly ellipsoid, with three septa (Hafellner 2001).

Type species: Trematosphaeriopsis parmeliana Jacz. & Elenkin, on Xanthoparmelia (Elenkin 1901)

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Trematosphaeriopsis
