Tirisporellales was introduced by Suetrong et al. (2015), currently, Tirisporellales comprises a single family, Tirisporellaceae with three genera, Bacusphaeria, Tirisporella and Thailandiomyces (Suetrong et al. 2015; Jones et al. 2015; Maharachchikumbura et al. 2015; Hyde et al. 2020a). The phylogenetic placement of Tirisporellales is untenable. The analyses of Hongsanan et al. (2017) and Luo et al. (2019) showed that Tirisporellales grouped within Diaporthales. While, in the analyses of Hyde et al. (2020a), Tirisporellales formed a separate clade basal to Diaporthales. Our phylogenetic analyses showed that Tirisporellales clustered with Macrohilaceae, Sydowiellaceae and Asterosporiaceae within Diaporthales which support the result of Hongsanan et al. (2017) and Luo et al. (2019). Divergence time estimates showed that the stem age of Tirisporellales is around 141 MYA, which accords to the order range (Hyde et al. 2017), however, due to the unstable phylogenetic relationship, more phylogenetic and morphological studies are necessary to confirm whether it should be transferred to Diaporthales or maintain its current status.
Type family: Tirisporellaceae Suetrong, E.B.G. Jones & K.L. Pang 2015.
