Index Fungorum, Facesoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank, Fig 1.
Classification: Incertae sedis, Hypocreales, Hypocreomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.
Bryophilous, perianth-inhabiting; biotrophic on gametophyte, necrotrophic on sporophyte of certain groups of liverworts. Sexual morph: Ascomata up to 280 µm diam., perithecial, pyriform, hyaline to dark, light or ocher-brown, without setae. Ostioles pronounced, punctiform; periphyses filamentous, lying in a gelatinous substance. Peridium composed of irregular, thick-walled hyphae. Apical paraphyses inconspicuous. Asci usually 4 or 8-spored (sometimes 8 or fewer spores per ascus), unitunicate, cylindrical, lacking apical structures. Ascospores ellipsoid, narrowly ellipsoidal to ovoid, 1-septate, often constricted at the septum, hyaline, walls slightly rough, cyanophilous. Hyphae growing superficially, sometimes covering the inner perianth surface, and intercellular within walls of the sporophyte and the gametophytic stem, hyaline, thick-, sometimes with cyanophilous walls. Asexual morph: Conidiomata superficial at the perianth base between the leaves, cushion-like, hyaline. Conidiogenous cells slender. Conidia 6–8 µm diam., globose, thick-walled, hyaline.
Known distribution: Honduras, Surinam, French Guiana (Döbbeler 1998), Costa Rica, (Döbbeler 1998, 2010), Indonesia (Döbbeler 2018).
Notes: Döbbeler (1998) erected Ticonectria for T. perianthii. Currently, there are three species in the genus but no DNA data are available. Ticonectria species are associated with Radula species and Cyclolejeunea convexistipa (Döbbeler 1998, 2010, 2018). Asexual morph only known for Ticonectria perianthii (Döbbeler 1998, 2010, 2018).
Type species: Ticonectria perianthii Döbbeler, Nova Hedwigia 66(3-4): 362 (1998).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Ticonectria.
