Notes: Thaxteriella was introduced and described by Petrak (1924), with T. corticola designated as the type species. Index Fungorum (2024) records fifteen species of Thaxteriella. Among them, T. eugeniae, T. garugae, T. helicoma, T. inthanonensis, and T. silentvalliensis were transferred to the genera Helicoma and Tubeufia. Currently, Thaxteriella comprises ten species, T. amazonensis, T. albo-ostiolata, T. corticola, T. corynespora, T. indica, T. lignicola, T. macrospora, T. ovata, T. pezizula and T. roraimensis, which were reported from freshwater and terrestrial habitats worldwide (Berkeley 1876; Petrak 1924, 1953; Teng 1936; Munk 1966; Dharne and Müller 1969; Rao and Varghese 1979; Samuels et al. 1979; Samuels and Muller 1979; Rossman 1987; Crane et al. 1998). Thaxteriella roraimensis is the only asexual helicosporous species in this genus (Samuels and Muller 1979). Additionally, all Thaxteriella species lack molecular data (Lu et al. 2018b). Therefore, new collections and molecular data are needed to resolve its taxonomy.
