Classification: Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, Fungi.
Stygiomyces was introduced by Coppins et al. (1995) to describe the lichenicolous species S. galliformis, which grows on Pseudocyphellaria faveolata. The genus is characterized by pale pycnidial conidiomata with intricately textured walls. Conidiogenous cells are phialidic, short-cylindrical to ampulliform, and conidia are hyaline, long-bacilliform, and septate at maturity, with a more or less truncate proximal apex (Coppins et al. 1995). Due to the absence of molecular data, Stygiomyces is tentatively placed within Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, pending further phylogenetic analysis (Hyde et al. 2024).
Type species: Stygiomyces galliformis Coppins & S.Y. Kondr., on Pseudocyphellaria faveolata (Coppins et al. 1995).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Stygiomyces.
