Notes: Spiralum was established by Mulder (1975), with S. helicosporum as the type species. Spiralum is characterized by solitary, dematiaceous, unbranched, septate, thin-wall, spirally twisted conidiophores that occur mostly in groups, with the apical region appearing swollen and verrucose, and hyaline or occasionally olivaceous, long, smooth, thin-walled, cylindrical, curved or helicoid conidia (Mulder 1975). Spiralum comprises two species: S. erectum and S. helicosporum, which were found in Piper and Ficus copiosa in Asia, respectively (Mulder 1975). The morphology of Spiralum differs from other helicosporous taxa due to its long, cylindrical, helicoid conidia (Mulder 1975; Zhao et al. 2007).
Type species: Spiralum helicosporum J.L. Mulder, Transactions of the British Mycological Society 65 (3): 518 (1975).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Spiralum.
