Saprobic on the resin of plant hosts. Hyphae of stipe infrequently branched, brown to dark brown, septate. Sexual morph: Undetermined. Asexual morph: Synnemata scattered or gregarious, dark brown to black, often splayed at the base but with a compact cylindrical stipe, and a compact, dry, ellipsoidal conidial head. Conidiophores mononematous or synnematous and arising from dark brown subiculum. Conidiogenous cells terminal or in pairs at the ends of the stipe hyphae, cylindrical with a truncate base. Conidia in sparingly branched acropetal chains, oblong-ellipsoidal, fusiform, brown, aseptate, rarely septate, secession scars available, smooth-walled, sometimes 1221 adjacent conidia anastomosing, ramoconidia infrequent, usually with just two emerging chains, conidial chains appressed and more or less parallel (Crous et al. 2019a).
Type species: Sorocybe resinae (Fr.) Fr., Summa veg. Scand., Sectio Post. (Stockholm): 468 (1849).
