Classification: Tubeufiaceae, Tubeufiales, Incertae sedis, Dothideomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.
Notes: Slimacomyces was introduced and described by Minter (1986), with S. monosporus as the type species based on morphological data. Slimacomyces monosporus was initially identified as Helicoma monospora by Kendrick (1958), but it was later reclassified as T. monospora within Troposporella by Ellis (1976) based on conidial features. Slimacomyces is characterized by its light brown, erect, septate, unbranched conidiophores, and septate, terminal, lustrous black conidia consisting of heavy pigmentation in the cell walls, with the terminal and basal cell having lesser pigmentation (Kendrick 1958; Minter 1986). Slimacomyces comprises two species: S. isiolus and S. monosporus (Minter 1986; Zhao et al. 2007). These two species were found in decaying wood of an unidentified plant, and Pinus sylvestris in Papua New Guinea and Great Britain (Moore 1957; Kendrick 1958). Slimacomyces resembles Helicoma and Troposporella in producing septate and helicoid conidia. The asexual morph of Helicoma differs from Slimacomyces by producing rarely branched, denticles conidiophores, and acropleurogenous conidia that are widely truncate at the base, whereas Troposporella differs in producing helicoid conidia from the sporodochial conidiomata (Tsui and Berbee 2010; Lu et al. 2023a).
Type species: Slimacomyces monosporus (W.B. Kendr.) Minter, Bull. Brit. Mycol. Soc. 20 (1): 23 (1986).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Slimacomyces.
