Classification: Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, Fungi.

Sessiliospora was introduced by Hawksworth (1979a) to describe the lichenicolous species S. bicolor, which occurs on the thallus of Lasioloma arachnoideum. The genus is characterized by effuse colonies with superficial, adpressed, branched mycelium. It lacks stroma, setae, and hyphopodia. Conidiophores are micronematous, mononematous, prostrate, simple or branched, and brown. Conidiogenous cells are monotretic, intercalary, and determinate, with dark brown walls and lateral scars. The conidia are elongate-obclavate, septate, with brown basal cells and subhyaline, beak-like apical cells (Hawksworth 1979a).

Initially, Sessiliospora was assigned to Dematiaceae, however, as the absence of molecular data, its phylogenetic position is unresolved and tentatively placed in Ascomycota genera incertae sedis by Hyde et al. (2024).

Type species: Sessiliospora bicolor D. Hawksw., on Lasioloma arachnoideum. (Hawksworth 1979a).

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Sessiliospora.
