Fungalpedia – Note 2934, Septofusidium

Septofusidium W. Gams, Cephalosporium-artige Schimmelpilze (Stuttgart): 147 (1971).

Citation when using this data: Perera RH et al. 2023 – Fungalpedia.

Index Fungorum, Facesoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank.

Classification Bionectriaceae, Hypocreales, Hypocreomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.

Parasitic on foliicolous fungi, saprobic on plant litter. Sexual morph: Undetermined. Asexual morph: Hyphomycetous. Conidiophores basitonously verticillate, arising laterally from submerged hyphae. Conidiogenous cells phialidic, sometimes integrated in septate branches, cylindrical to allantoid, hyaline to yellow, smooth-walled, becoming verrucose. Conidia cylindrical to fusiform, 0–7-septate, sometimes with distinct hilum at both ends, hyaline to yellow, smooth or roughened to verrucose, formed in long divergent chains (adapted from Lombard et al. 2015).

Known distribution: UK (Lombard et al. 2015)

Notes: Gams (1971) accepted Septofusidium in the family Nectriaceae based on morphological data. Later Lombard et al. (2015) provided DNA data of Septofusidium (S. berolinense and herbarum) and introduced the family Tilachlidiaceae to accommodate Septofusidium and Tilachlidium. However, no molecular data are available for the generic type Septofusidium elegantulum. Relying on DNA analysis, we recognize Septofusidium berolinense and S. herbarum in Bionectriaceae (Perera RH et al. 2023).

Type species: Septofusidium elegantulum (Pidopl.) W. Gams, Cephalosporium-artige Schimmelpilze (Stuttgart): 147 (1971).

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Septofusidium.
