Classification: Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.
Rosellinula was established by Eriksson et al. (1986b) to accommodate the type species R. haplospora, which was originally described as Endococcus haplospora Th. Fr. & Almq., growing on Lecanora cinerea (Eriksson et al. 1986b). The type species is characterized by globose, immersed, semi-exposed, black perithecia, 0.25–0.3 mm in diameter. with hymenial gelatin that initially turns blue with iodine, and then quickly changes to a wine-red color. The paraphyses are robust and gelatinously conglutinate, and the ascospores are ellipsoid, simple, blackish, and numerous within inflated-clavate asci (Fries 1867a).
Santesson (1988) transferred Muellerella frustulosae Vouaux to Rosellinula frustulosae (Vouaux) R. Sant. Rogers et al. (1988) reclassified Roselliniella kalbi Hafellner as Rosellinula kalbi, and Galloway (2004) transferred Mullerella lopadii Vouaux to Rosellinula lopadii. To date, four species are recognized in this genus, all of which are lichenicolous on the crustose lichens. No available molecular data are currently available from NCBI, so the genus has been tentatively placed within Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis by Hyde et al. (2024).
Type species: Rosellinula haplospora (Th. Fr. & Almq.) R. Sant.
