Classification: Xanthopyreniaceae, Collemopsidiales, Dothideomycetes orders incertae sedis, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi
Rhagadodidymellopsis was established by Fernández-Brime et al. (2020) to accommodate the only species R. endocarpi, which grows on the crustose lichen Endocarpon pusillum. It is characterized by black, perithecioid ascomata with unilocular and a clearly rugose and irregular surface. The interascal filaments are branched and anastomosing. The 8-spored asci are fissitunicate, clavate, stipitate, thickened at the apex, and have a distinct ocular chamber. The hyaline ascospores are narrowly obovate to elongate ellipsoid, with a smooth surface and a conspicuous gelatinous sheath. They are 1-septate, constricted at septum, heteropolar, and contain oil droplets (Fernández-Brime et al. 2020).
Due to its similarities to the two genera Didymellopsis and Zwackhiomyces, Rhagadodidymellopsis was also included in the same family. Hyde et al. (2024) accepted this classification pending the availability of molecular data.
Type species : Rhagadodidymellopsis endocarpi Fdez.-Brime, Gaya, Llimona & Nav.-Ros. (Fernández-Brime et al. 2020)
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Rhagadodidymellopsis
