Classification: Nectriaceae, Hypocreales, Hypocreomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.
Saprobic, plant pathogenic, on plant material including twigs and tubers, sometimes isolated from soil. Sexual morph: Ascomata perithecial, aggregated in groups, globose to subglobose, dark red, with a papillate ostiolar region, ringed by a short collar of hyphal tips, surface smooth. Paraphyses lacking. Asci 8- spored, clavate, apex rounded, with a containing J- apical ring. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 1-septate, constricted at the septum, light brown, verrucose. Asexual morph: Hyphomycetous, not sporodochial. Conidiophores simple, mononematous, straight to flexuous, septate, unbranched or rarely branched, hyaline, terminating in a single phialide. Conidiogenous cells phialidic, cylindrical, tapering towards the apex, periclinal thickening visible, with flared collarettes. Microconidia rare, ellipsoidal to fusiform, 0–1-septate, hyaline. Macroconidia 3- septate, hyaline, ellipsoidal to fusiform, with both ends slightly curved, sometimes with a basal foot cell, apex acutely rounded. Chlamydospores occur laterally or terminally, globose to subglobose, hyaline (adapted from Lombard et al. 2015).
Known distribution: Germany (Lombard et al. 2015).
Notes: Lombard et al. (2015) established Rectifusarium to accommodate the fusarium-like species previously treated as F. ventricosum. Rectifusarium is characterized by not possessing sporodochia.
Type species: Rectifusarium ventricosum (Appel & Wollenw.) L. Lombard & Crous, in Lombard, van der Merwe, Groenewald & Crous, Stud. Mycol. 80: 229 (2015).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Rectifusarium.
