Fungalpedia – Note 2899, Randlanea

Randlanea Zhurb., Diederich & U. Braun.

Index Fungorum, Faceoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank, Fig 1.

Classification: Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, Fungi.

Randlanea was introduced by Zhurbenko et al. (2023) to describe the lichenicolous fungus R. usneicola, which is associated with Usnea longissima. The genus is characterized by phialidic conidiogenesis, multilocular conidiogenous cells that are occasionally annellidic, and conidia that form in chains. These conidia are initially 1–2(–3)-septate but frequently fragment into aseptate sections (Zhurbenko et al. 2023). Due to the absence of molecular data, the phylogenetic placement of Randlanea remains uncertain, and it is tentatively assigned to Ascomycota genera incertae sedis (Hyde et al. 2024).

Type species: Randlanea usneicola Zhurb., Diederich & U. Braun, on Usnea longissimi (Zhurbenko et al. 2023).

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Randlanea.
